Swayambu sri Pathala Vinayaka Swamy temple is one of the
famous temple in Chittor district and also called as Vakra Vinayaka Temple. It
was found in 1997, constructed the temple in 2000 and expanded further in 2012
by Pandiguttor youth with the help of devotees from different locations in the
world.
According to the temple legend, in 1997 a Folk dance master
has come to Gopalakrishna Puram (A village near to Pandiguttor and Formerly
known as Chettoluru) to teach and perform the Folk dance for the occasion
of Vinayaka Chavathi. One night he got a dream, in his dream Lord Vinayaka told
him that he is located under the ground near to Thamara Gunta (Lotus Lake). As
soon as the villagers received this information, they started searching for the
swayambhu idol location based on the dream and finally they found the swayambhu
idol in a natural pond and even today the idol is in the original natural pond.
Thamara Gunta (Lotus Lake): It is a place near to
Pandiguttoor village, Irala mandal of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh in
South India. A natural lake on top of the rocks with plenty of lotus (1000
petal lotus are in this pond). Next to this lake you can find a historical
Vishnu (Perumal) temple and pillar and foot print of lord Venkateshwara. Source
says pillar and the temple are constructed by Pallavas between the 2nd and 9th
centuries CE. The holy water from the lake is offered to the devotees as
theertham.
