Tungnath Temple, Uttrakhand

The highest Hindu temple in the world and at about 12200 ft, this Shiva temple is the second most revered Shiva haunt, of all the Panch Kedars and breaking away from the tradition of allowing only a south Indian Brahmin to offer prayers, as decreed by the 8th Sankaracharya, this temple employs a local village Brahmin. No one know how this temple came to being, but experts assess it to be around a 1000 years old. Legend has it that Arjuna, from Mahabarata built this temple with his own hands.
